Tips for Protecting Your Event Furniture in Storage

11th Oct 2019

If you have tables and chairs that are used for events held in storage until the next time it is required, it’s important to make sure that it’s stored correctly and cared for properly to keep it in good condition. Here are some top tips for protecting your event furniture so that it’s ready for use whenever you need it.

Choosing the Right Storage Option

When it comes to storing furniture, it’s important to protect it properly from the elements. You may want to consider choosing a storage unit which is climate controlled to ensure your pieces remain well protected from changing temperatures and moisture. This is especially important if you’re storing wooden chairs or tables.

Clean Your Furniture

Before putting your event furniture into storage, make sure that it is properly cleaned. If you put dirty items into storage, mould could accumulate over time. This would then need to be removed before using the furniture again, which could be a time-consuming experience. It could even make your furniture unusable.

If you’re cleaning plastic chairs and tables, you can use water and a mild soap. For wooden furniture, however, using a dedicated wood cleaning product is best to protect its existing finish. If there are any fabric items such as upholstery and seat cushions, use a dedicated upholstery cleaner and make sure that everything has fully dried before putting it into storage. Any metal sections should be polished with a clean cloth and a metal cleaning product to remove oxidation and delay tarnish build-up.

Cover Your Furniture

While your furniture is in storage it should be properly covered for extra protection. Cover the floor with some plastic sheets to guard against moisture seeping into the furniture. Use some blankets, plastic wrap, drop cloths or old sheets to cover up your furniture. This will protect them from moisture and dust. Don’t use thick plastic covers, however, as this will keep the moisture in and cause furniture to swell and be damaged.

Keep Furniture Off the Floor

If you’re storing your event furniture in a space with no climate control, you should take care to avoid putting any items onto the floor directly. Use some cinder blocks or pallets to raise the furniture from the floor and this will help to guard against moisture damage as well as added extra protection from flooding.

Avoid Putting Too Much Furniture in Your Storage Unit

To avoid any scratches, breakages or other damage to your event furniture, make sure that you don’t try to cram too many pieces into the storage unit. Pack the space methodically beginning with the biggest pieces and always ensure you’ve left sufficient room to walk to the sides and back of the unit.

Simplifying the Storage Process

It needn’t be complex to store your furniture in a storage unit. Follow these expert tips and you should have no problems in keeping your tables and chairs for your next event ready for use whenever they’re required.
